In conventional lateral strain gauges, the measurement of the r-value involves measuring lateral strain at one or two points, resulting in a variation of up to 30% in the measured r-value due to local strain in the specimen, vibrations of the gauge, and differences among operators. In this method, it is necessary to conduct retests to verify whether this r-value meets the performance requirements of the client, which can lead to wasted time.
